Figure 2M-1. Examples of Use of Arrows, Educational Plaques,and Prohibitive Slashes

This figure illustrates six examples of use of arrows, educational plaques, and prohibitive slashes. The figure illustrates symbol signs shown as square brown signs with white borders and symbols and arrow signs shown as horizontal rectangular brown signs with white borders and lettering. Directional signs and educational plaques also are shown.

Example A, labeled "directional signs," shows a vertical rectangular brown sign with a white border and legend. It shows a parking symbol ("P") in the top portion of the sign above a smaller amphitheater symbol. To the right of the amphitheater symbol, a right-pointing horizontal arrow is shown.

Example B, labeled "directional assemblies," shows four sign assemblies:

  • The first sign assembly shows a swimming symbol sign mounted above a left-pointing horizontal arrow sign.
  • The second sign assembly shows a hiking symbol sign mounted above a sleeping shelter symbol sign mounted above a left-pointing horizontal arrow sign.
  • The third sign assembly shows a trail bike symbol sign mounted above a left-pointing horizontal arrow sign.
  • The fourth sign assembly shows a four-wheel-drive vehicle symbol sign mounted above a right-pointing horizontal arrow sign.

Example C, labeled "directional assembly with educational plaque," shows a ranger station symbol sign mounted above a smaller horizontal rectangular plaque with the words "RANGER STATION" on two lines mounted above a right-pointing horizontal arrow sign.

Example D is labeled "prohibited activities and educational plaque for non-road use." A note states "Standard regulatory signs shall be used where provided elsewhere in this Manual." Two sign assemblies are shown:

  • A white campfire symbol sign with a black border and symbol with a red diagonal slash across it from top left to bottom right, mounted above a smaller horizontal rectangular white plaque with a black border and the words "NO CAMPFIRES" in black.
  • A white smoking symbol sign (a cigarette) with a black border and legend with a red diagonal slash across it from top left to bottom right, mounted above a smaller horizontal rectangular white plaque with a black border and the words "NO SMOKING" in black.
