Figure 2D-16. Example of Crossroad Signing for an Entrance Ramp with a Nearby Frontage Road

This figure shows an example of crossroad signing for an entrance ramp with a nearby frontage road.

The figure shows segments of an unnamed vertical roadway, with the travel direction from the bottom to the top of the figure. The roadway is shown crossing a multi-lane horizontal highway, I-10.

The interchange between the two is shown as the bottom half of a diamond-shaped ramp configuration. A horizontal roadway labeled "Frontage Road" is shown to the right of the vertical roadway, below the I-10 interchange ramps. A series of signs and sign assemblies are shown for one direction of travel along the vertical roadway from the bottom to the top of the figure. They are shown to the right of the roadway.

There are three sets of sign assemblies shown on the vertical roadway:

  • At the bottom of the figure, a sign assembly is shown as a red and blue Interstate route shield for I-10. Above it, a plaque is shown with the word "JCT" in white letters and a white border on a blue background.
  • Closer to the interchange and in advance of the horizontal roadway labeled "Frontage Road," a pair of signs are shown separated by the word "OR." The left sign is shown as a horizontal rectangular green guide sign with a white border and legend. The Interstate route shield for I-10 is shown to the left of the word "EAST" in white on the top line. The words "2ND RIGHT" are shown in white on the bottom line. The right sign is shown as a horizontal rectangular green guide sign with a white border and legend. A vertical white arrow pointing to the right with a second right-pointing arrowhead in the middle of the shaft is shown on the left part of the sign. The top arrow is to the left of an Interstate route shield for I-10 shown to the left of the word "EAST" in white. The bottom arrow is to the left of the words "Frontage Road" in white.
  • Beyond the horizontal roadway labeled "Frontage Road" and just south of the right entrance ramp to I-10, a horizontal rectangular green guide sign is shown with a white border and legend. The word "WEST" is shown in white above an upward-pointing vertical white arrow. These are to the left of an Interstate route shield for I-10, which is shown to the left of the word "EAST" in white above a right-pointing horizontal white arrow. To the left of this sign is the word "OR" and another sign, a red and blue Interstate route shield for I-10 with a plaque above it showing the word "EAST" in white letters and a white border on a blue background, and with a plaque below it showing a diagonal arrow pointing down and to the right. These two signs are also shown on the north side of the entrance ramp, with a note stating: "Alternate location for directional assembly or alternate location for guide sign depending on distance between ramp and frontage roadway intersections."

A note states: "See Figures 2D-11 through 2D-15 for additional signing on crossroad approaches."
