A BROKEN (dashed) YELLOW line is a roadway centerline indicating that crossing over into the oncoming traffic lane for the purposes of overtaking and passing another vehicle is permitted if it is safe to do so. [MUTCD Section 3B.01] The only exception to this is the special marking pattern for a Two-Way Left Turn Lane [skip back to if desired], which features a combination of a solid and a broken yellow line on both sides of the lane. [MUTCD Section 3B.03]

A DOUBLE BROKEN (dashed) YELLOW line is a special marking designating both sides of a Reversible Lane [skip back to if desired], a lane that is operated in one direction during one part of the day and in the opposite direction during the other parts of the day. [MUTCD Section 3B.03]
